For the past twelve years Rush Athletics has hosted a track meet to raise funds for their travel grant. This premiere meet is a “hardware show” because it offers medals to the top eight individuals in each event in each age division and the trophies to the top five teams.

In 2019, Helen Scott-Owens, the grandmother of Coach Nicole Lincoln, passed away the morning of the Rush’s track meet. The meet was renamed in Helen’s honor. In 2021, in addition to the above mentioned medals and trophies, the Helen Scott-Owens Prestigious Athletic award was introduced and give to the top 12&under boy and girl, 13&up boy and girl, and Open/Master man and woman. These awards have been the highlight of the meet.

This brings us to 2023! This year we want to award every single athlete competing in the meet. That means that those athletes who have set personal records after personal records during summer month, but never achieving the top eight status in their event will still walk away with a medal. Yes, EVERYEVERY ATHLETE will receive a medal for setting new personal records during the meet if they are not in the Top 8! This will bring the spirit of Helen Scott-Owens alive because she believe that people needed to be rewarded for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to their sport.
